Congress

IMMSANE holds a Congress every other year (even numbers) at different global locations hosted by IMMSANE institutional members. Assemblies, workshops, keynotes, and presentations of works are organized by colleagues, students, and industry representatives.

4th  IMMSANE CONGRESS 2026 in India

Following the great successes at IMMSANE Berlin 2024, IMMSANE Utrecht 2022 and IMMSANE Zurich 2020, IMMSANE will hold the next Congress in India in 2026.

1st IMMSANE Zurich Congress: October 1-3, 2020

The Zurich University of the Arts (Switzerland) is one of the major Universities of the arts in Europe with a strong media music and sound department. Study and research programs at ZHdK cover areas of design, film, fine arts, music, dance, theatre, transdisciplinary studies, and the teaching of arts and design. The Zurich University of the Arts / Composition for Film, Theatre, and Media supported IMMSANE by providing academic hosting for IMMSANE events since 2020.

2nd IMMSANE Utrecht Congress: September 23-24, 2022

HKU / University of the Arts Utrecht (Nederlands) distinguishes itself with higher education in the arts and media. We are a driving force in courses and innovation for the creative industries, and one of the largest art universities in Europe. HKU has nine schools with a total of 4400 students: Fine Art, Design, Music and Technology, Games and Interaction, Art and Economics, Media, Utrechts Conservatorium, Theatre, and Creative Transformation.

3rd IMMSANE Berlin Congress: February 16-18, 2024

NORDIC FILM MUSIC DAYS 2024 took place at Nordische Botschaften and the Filmuniversität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf (Germany) which distinguishes itself with higher education in the field of film making. More than 100 years ago, the history of film began in Babelsberg with the establishment of the world's oldest film studio.

SoundTrack_Cologne

SoundTrack_Cologne is one of the most important media music and sound design industry events in Europe and is the patron and host of IMMSANE (AcadeMeet) since 2014.

SoundTrack_Zurich

SoundTrack_Zurich hosts IMMSANE since October 2020 when it was founded during Zurich Film Festival (ZFF). The International Film Music Competition takes place since 2012, collaborating with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and Forumfilmmusik to provide one of the most important film music competitions in which the finalists are performed by the live orchestra to screen at a special event during SoundTrack_Zurich at the Zurich Film Festival.

Festival International Music & Cinema Marseille

The Festival International Music & Cinema Marseille (formerly the Festival International du Film d'Aubagne) is dedicated to the relationship between music and image. Presenting both, short and feature film competitions, an original music score, or a special work on sound creation is always the lead. The Festival International Music & Cinema Marseille is also an important support for young international film creation and film music composers. Presenting masterclasses of composition, seminars, round tables, and ciné-concerts, the Festival has also developed many professional meeting initiatives such as the European Market for Film Music Composition, and has been hosting IMMSANE since 2016.

Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF)

Krakow Film Music Festival is one of the world’s largest festivals dedicated for film music. The festival is accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, open-air shows and meetings with artists. Every year, the festival is visited by approximately 900 Polish and international guests: directors, producers, festival programmers and numerous Krakow audience. Krakow FMF hosts an IMMSANE meeting as part of their programme since 2021.

Nordic Film Music Days

Since 2010, Nordic composers have joined forces to put focus on Nordic Film Music and Nordic Film with the HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award. From 2016 the HARPA Nordic Film Music Days and the HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award have been taking place at the Nordische Botschaften in Berlin in the same time as the Berlinale Film Festival. With new collaborators within the Norwegian and the Finnish Music export offices our event has been seriously strengthened. HARPA Nordic Film Music Days and Composer Award is supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond and Nordische Botschaften. Nordic Film Music Days is co-hosting IMMSANE Berlin 2024 at the Nordische Botschaften Berlin.

WSA FILM MUSIC DAYS

Through the organisation of film music seminars, masterclasses, workshops and other activities at Film Fest Ghent, the WSAcademy actively contributes to the education and study of this art form. The WSAcademy engages itself in the preservation of the history of film music through recordings, publications and the development of an archive. The WSAcademy also develops initiatives that are aimed at offering public platforms to new film music talent and networking activities for the creatives and industry professionals involved in music and sound for screen.

MSCN Film Music Festivals Academy

MSCN Film Music Festivals Academy focusses on improving the professional qualifications of aspiring media music composers through online group sessions, intensive 1-2-1 mentorship sessions and active projects in collaboration with the leading European film music festivals.

Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF)

Krakow Film Music Festival holds a competition each year to workshop and present new film music composers to the International film music scene. The festival is accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, open-air shows and meetings with artists, in which participants in the film scoring competition can take part.

International Film Music Competition

HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award

From 2016 the HARPA Nordic Film Music Days and the HARPA Nordic Film Composers Award have been taking place at the Nordische Botschaften in Berlin in the same time as the Berlinale film festival.

Oticons Faculty International Film Music Competition

This competition has become one of the world’s leading International film-music competitions through its unique profile which mentors each yearly competition winner through representation and career development. Oticons Faculty collaborates with IMMSANE in events since IMMSANE 2020.

Music & Cinema Marseille (MCM)

With a focus on young cinematographic creation and musical composition for screen, the artistic policy of the Festival is now unique in Europe. Created in 1999, Music & Cinema - Festival International du Film à Marseille (MCM) - named Festival International du Film à Aubagne until 2021- is now recognized among the professional industry, both at a national and international level, as a reference in musical composition for screen. Every year, Music & Cinema gives out several prizes in order to pay tribute to the artists of the Festival. Crystal Pine Awards (International Sound & Film Music Festival)

International Sound & Film Music Festival (ISFMF) is promoting awareness of the importance of music and sound as irreplaceable elements of film. The festival also provides visibility to audiovisual professions who work in the field of composing music, sound design and sound mixing. The Crystal Pine Award for best film scores, songs and sound will be awarded in the following categories: Best Original Score | Feature Film, Best Original Score | Documentary, Best Original Score | Short film, Best Original Score | Series, Best Original Song | Feature Film, Best Sound Mixing / Best Sound Editing.

World Soundtrack Awards (WSA)

Created and launched by Film Fest Ghent in 2001, the World Soundtrack Academy supports the art of film music through cultural, promotional, educational and professional activities. The WSAcademy promotes film music worldwide through the annual presentation of the World Soundtrack Awards, which recognise outstanding achievements, as well as through the development of other promotional activities.
